Dark Souls. How much has already been said about this series … Fans and just curious have examined the history and mythology of the world of dark souls, it would seem, to the smallest details. I won’t be surprised if there is an article dedicated to the culinary tastes of Gwin, or Artias, or specifically “this nameless hollow” from the city of non-life on the trains of the Internet.

But even so, there is always a scope for research. And how do you like the statement, that the protagonist is blind? If anything, then this is a joke or not?

One way or another, today’s conversation will go about the uniform in the Dark Souls Games series. It is clear, we will not discuss each of the countless sets of armor. Frankly fantasy inventions will be ignored, instead, we will consider objects that have real historical prototypes.

And first of all, I would like to praise from Software, who, despite their Japanese origin, still did not allow their violent fantasy to finally take root. And we all know what the carriers of the Yamato spirit are capable of, especially in the field of vestments, both fictional and real.

Instead, the developers were guided by the real European Middle Ages, even if, forgive for a tautology, "averaged". In reality, the samples presented could hardly exist in the same era, but as we recall: “In the lordrane, the course of time is curved” Therefore, it is not surprising that not only the war itself, most likely, look for each other as travelers in time, but also the armor of some, as if they were collected from the corpses of people who lived in completely different eras. (However, it was possible, so it was)

And we will begin, perhaps, from which most players began in Dark Souls, namely from the class of the knight and his starting equipment. And when looking at a complete set of armor, mixed feelings arise. However, this word is best suited for describing this set. The bib and the shoulder of the stiffness have pronounced stiffness ribs, which is characteristic of the maximum armor of the beginning of the 16th century, literally, the very result of the Middle Ages. The helmet resembles Armet with a raised random, approximately the same period. And in the context of what is happening in the game, opening a face is the right step, let’s talk more about this when we consider another very similar helmet.

But with the protection of https://slothypecasino.co.uk/mobile-app/ arms and legs, not everything is so good. If on the left hand, a power glove is still worn, which, judging by the ribs of stiffness, can also be attributed to the Maximilian armor, then the leather flaunts on the right. The same situation with your legs is corrugated knee -offs and leather boots that you expect to see more on a light horseman or nomadic. But in general, leather shoes are a topic for a separate conversation. Such a solution is even more strange in the context of wearing this armor is supposed to be a knight, since it is the right hand and legs that are the most vulnerable parts of the body of a heavy horseman. Given that in the right, as a rule, weapons are kept, and the legs are generally always at risk, especially when the cavalry with infantry was battle. While the left arm and body are usually covered with a shield.

But the strangest detail in this armor is the protection of hips and a pelvis, in the form of a ring-plastic skirt, that is, chain mail with inserts of metal plates. In reality, this type of protection existed at about the same time when the Gothic and Maximilian armor, but their spread was not Western Europe, but the countries of the Middle East, Central Asia and Eastern Europe. That is, as a result, the armor of the knight is a certain monster Frankenstein – half Maximilian armor, half Russian Bekhterer or Yushman.

And of course, to consider the knight set in conjunction with other sets of armor – a set of an elite knight. Hand protection has not changed at all. Whereas on the feet there are already more appropriate lance chips, however, a little earlier period, most likely the XIV century, which is 100-200 years older than the rest of the armor.

But the most archaic part of the kit is the protection of the corps in the form of a short chain mail of the era of the early Middle Ages, with a luxurious Surko – clothes put on top of the armor, which is more characteristic of the high Middle Ages.

And of course one cannot but tell about the detail of the equipment that has become the symbol of the first part – the helmet of an elite knight. And this is the same Armete, which was already mentioned above, but only with a lowered racket. In mass culture, such a helmet became, in some way, a symbol of chivalry as such.

But in the context of what is happening in the game, wearing a helmet with a closed shot is not the best idea. And all because of an extremely limited review. If you look at the front of the helmet, you can see that the bottom is a little bulging forward, which is typical for purely cavalry equipment. A similar ledge served as a shield, during the battle, the horseman tilted the body back in the saddle slightly, thus completely protecting his face from the blow, but at the same time losing the opportunity to see at least something. So such helmets were more often used in tournaments, while in real battle many knights still preferred to sacrifice protection for maneuverability and convenience.

In some situations, such as the assault on the fortress wall and other cases, when the knight still had to dismount, they preferred to raise. You can see more about this on the World of Armor channel. Armorsmith. It is no coincidence that many of the medieval infantry helmets were open, for example, the same famous chapel. Although, to no less, the simple poverty of an ordinary infantryman plays a role here.

And given how many cunning traps and cliffs leading to the bottomless abyss, he will have to meet the protagonist, to sacrifice protection for the sake of convenience – a very reasonable decision. Although, inside the game, a protagonist can wear any Kendibobera on his head and this will not affect his maneuverability, which can be considered a game convention, although, perhaps, the chosen dead man is a blind warrior, like a shock.

Perhaps someone will say: “What kind of convenience and maneuverability in general can be discussed, when discussing knightly armor?"After all, everyone knows that the knight in the armor could not climb on his own after falling, only climbed the horse with other people’s help, because of the huge weight of the armor he had hard to move, and, in general, he could not normally celebrate the need, because so?

Of course, all this has long been scattered myths. The knight in combat armor is not very constrained in movements, given that the weight is evenly distributed over the body, so that nothing prevented the trimmed fighter from making the same rifts that are demonstrated in the game, and sometimes more abruptly. I will not dwell on other myths, given how many various specialists have already been said about them much more competent than me.

Although nevertheless, the tiny grain of truth in these myths is. But we are more likely about tournament armor, which really made the war inactive, but gave additional protection. But this is a very shaky ground for discussion, and I will not insist on anything.

By the way, the Armet described above had a purely tournament option. And it is impossible not to mention that another helmet for tournaments served as inspiration for another famous Perdmet from the game – the Katarinsky helmet, which was possessed by the famous “onion” knight Sigmayer. In appearance, it seems that such a form is an absurd invention of developers, or a fantasy on the theme of the eastern sholomas (better known to us as “those helmets of the heroes”). But in fact, this is the evolution of the same tournament Armet, namely, a tournament helmet for a fight on the maces. Only unlike the original, in the game, instead of a lattice, it is supposed to observe the surrounding reality through a narrow observation gap, which most likely makes this protective equipment completely inappropriate in real battle.

You could notice that the text often says about tournament and combat armor, but such a division was not always relevant. At the beginning of the era of chivalry, there was no such thing as a separate equipment for combat campaigns and a separate for tournament ristles. The knight could first go to rob a neighbor in the same set of armor, then go to the tournament to some duke, and then go into the "pilgrimage" behind the coffin of the Lord in the Holy Land.
